Context

Covid-19 and recent events in the past 14 months have forced us to evolve the way we live and ramped up our usage of online resources at unprecedented speeds. Despite many challenges and unfathomable losses, many creators have used this time to create platforms, communities, and products to help mitigate the trouble for the average user with a million other things on their mind. As product people we thrive and take pride in creating products that will advance our organization's initiatives, profit, and most importantly, impact.

Product Buds success depends on the success of our community. We place immense significance on our mission statement of striving to build an inclusive community where product managers can Sprout, Grow, and Flourish. This organizational promise has been embedded into Product Buds signature event, Protothon.

Objective

We ask competitors to ask themselves several questions in their ideation and execution processes. Including but not limited to, How can I create an opportunity for someone else through my product? How can I create ease in a user’s experience? What does it mean to have a product that targets a “diverse” audience? How can we leverage technological innovation to shape our evolving world and ensure that everyone has a seat at the table? How can I connect different communities/causes to generate larger impact? Where do different industries fall short on providing equity and how can my product close the gap?

To provide more direction, choose from the following sectors:

  1. Education
  2. Entertainment
  3. Connectivity
  4. Health Care
  5. Financial Services

Apart from the above mentioned sectors, if competitors can identify any other trends relevant to "social impact,” they have the creative freedom to follow the idea!

This is a challenging theme, because it asks competitors to go beyond creating a minimum viable product that has market potential and value. This theme also tests their ability to be open-minded, empathize with users systematic disadvantages, and question their own implicit biases.

Best of luck to our competitors! We look forward to their professional and personal growth.
